Rootkits are Dangerous

Rootkits are particularly nasty.

A rootkit is a program that is designed to take control of a computer's operating system.  Rootkits are installed in a sneaky manner.  They try to avoid detection and prevent their own removal by subverting the operating system's security.  Because they avoid detection, rootkits are used by intruders to access computers without their owners' knowledge.  Rootkits even modify the operating system by installing themselves as part of the operating system by replacing legitimate operating system files.  They are horribly sneaky pieces of malware.
